About the Scholarship

The Global Leaders Scholarship (GLS) was created to encourage students to have better understanding of leadership and cultural diversity by studying and experiencing life outside of one's own country.

The Scholarship will cover the full tuition of the student's degree program for one (1) academic year, in addition to one thousand U.S. dollars (1,000) stipend to be used for books and other studying materials.

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements

The scholarship is open to anyone who has a passion to take a step forward to become a future global leader by living and studying away from your native country. If you are already enrolled and studying at an institution outside of your country of citizenship, you are also eligible to apply. The requirements for the applicant are :
  1. s/he must be (or will be) enrolled in a degree program (either associate, undergraduate or graduate) and not a certificate or license program;
  2. maintain a full-time student status at all times, and
  3. review and agree to the expectations set by the foundation described on the application.
There is no restriction on the choice of the fields of study and/or the country in which the applicant chooses to study in. The requirements for the institution of the applicant's choosing must be :
  1. located outside of the applicant's country of citizenship;
  2. an accredited institution which offers full degree programs in either associate, undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Expectations from the Scholarship Recipients

If you receive the scholarship, you will be expected to do the following :
  1. Maintain full-time student status with a minimum grade point average of B+ (or 85%) or higher.
  2. Submit monthly report to the foundation describing your academic progress and school activities, including completion of the final report one month prior to the completion of your degree program. Funds will be withheld until required reports are received.
  3. Maintain communication with the foundation before, during and after your study period and register your contact information with the foundation, keeping your mailing address, telephone number and email address updated at all times.
  4. Present at least four talks upon completion of your studies before the audience at meetings the foundation organizes.

Please complete the application and submit it through our website or print them out and send via postal mail to the foundation's address. We highly prefer applications submitted via online, because it can be processed much more promptly, which will result in faster response to the applicants with the status of the application. Please be sure to submit an application that is complete. The application must be filled out in English, and no application with missing documents and/or information will be considered.

Personal Statements & Resume

Personal statements are the most important aspect of the application, and we highly encourage all applicants to prepare them with the highest level of sincerely, integrity and honesty. All essays must be written in English and please write your name, address, telephone number and email address at the upper right-hand corner of each page.
  1. A brief autobiography, no longer than one page (10 font size), describing :
    • Academic strengths and challenges
    • Work experience (if any)
    • Career objective
  2. A statement of purpose, no longer than one page (10 font size), describing :
    • Your proposed field of study and future career plans, including an explanation of how these plans will support the foundation's mission to further the next generation's understanding of leadership and cultural diversity
    • Your reasoning used to determine your chosen field of study, country where the institution is located, and how they support your plans
  3. A resume or a curriculum vitae, no longer than one page
Application and Processing Fee (Non-Refundable)

The payment can be made on the foundation's website or by sending it via postal mail (Checks payable to: IU Foundation) to the foundation's address. Please note that no application will be considered without the application fee.

Application Deadline

There is no formal deadline for the application, and they are accepted all year long. Scholarship winners will be determined on a rolling basis as long as the funds for that fiscal year are available. Therefore, applicants are highly encouraged to apply as soon as they can. Any applications received after the year's funds have been exhausted will be considered for the following year.

Selection Process & Time Frame

Within two weeks of our receipt of your application, we will notify you the status of your application via email - whether it is complete or is in need of additional information.

Within four to six weeks of our receipt of your COMPLETE application, we will notify you via email to set up a telephone interview with our selection committee. If your application was unsuccessful, you will also be notified via email within this time frame.

Within two to four weeks after the telephone interview, we will notify you via telephone and email whether you have been selected as the recipient of the scholarship or not. If your interview was unsuccessful, you will also be notified via email within this time frame.
